🔍 Important Blood Donation Facts

1. One donation can save up to 3 lives

Blood is separated into:

  • Red cells (for anemia, surgeries, thalassemia)

  • Platelets (for cancer, dengue)

  • Plasma (for burns, trauma)


2. Your body replaces donated blood quickly

  • Plasma: within 24 hours

  • Red blood cells: within 4–6 weeks
    So donating is safe for healthy people.


3. You can donate every 3 months (men) and 4 months (women)

According to standard Indian guidelines.


4. Blood cannot be manufactured

There is no substitute. Donors are the only source.


5. Less than 1% of India donates blood regularly

But the country needs millions of units every year, especially for:

  • Thalassemia patients

  • Accidents (India has high road accident numbers)
